On Wednesday 25th January Rayleigh Art Group enjoyed a demonstration by Essex artist Bill Newton. Bill painted a marine scene depicting boats moored in a creek.
Bill used watercolour paint for this demonstration. He captured so well the effect of light on water and achieved in a couple of hours a painting that would have taken , for me at least, a couple of days.
As an added bonus Bill also gave a short demonstration on ways of painting trees. Something that many of us find difficult
This first demonstration of 2012 was very well attended by members and visitors and as the saying goes ” A good time was had by all! “.
Our next event on February 8th is the annual Fish/Chicken supper which is always well attended not only for the food but for the entertaining Quiz which our Vice Chairman Cathy and her husband John provide. This is also the evening when we will have “The Jose Hook Competition” As it is the club’s golden anniversary year the paintings will have the word “Golden” in their title. One of the club’s members, Brian Jones, has created a wonderful banner for our anniversary and this will hang at all our meetings and exhibitions this year.
Thanks to Corinne Scott for the report and Cathy Newton for the photos.
